What We Believe

About God

We believe that there is only one living and true God. We believe there are three persons in the Godhead: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are eternally existent, equal in nature, power, and glory. God cannot be known by any human instrument or human ability. He is known only through His voluntary self-disclosure, which is called revelation. God reveals Himself by what He has created (General Revelation). He also reveals himself by the deeds performed by Him alone and the employment of language (Special Revelation). Visible and Vocal revelation (Deeds and Language) is employed by God because of human necessity and limited capacity, not a deficiency of God’s character.

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is clearly called God throughout the Scriptures. This fact of Jesus’ deity was spoken clearly by Himself and recognized as a claim to be God by the Jewish leaders without Jesus’ apology or correction. The Scriptures are also clear that Jesus was fully human. The Lord Jesus Christ took on a human body and a sinless human nature. He was miraculously born of a virgin and lived a sinless human life. He was delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God and nailed to the cross and put to death by the hands of Godless men. He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose the third day and after appearing to many he ascended into heaven. He is the One who has been appointed by God to be the judge of the Living and the dead. Jesus our Lord died as a substitute for us, in our place and was made to be sin and a curse for us. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. The Holy Spirit is clearly called God throughout the Scriptures. In the Old Testament He is all-powerful, eternal, all knowing, creator and all present. In the New Testament, He is also clearly declared God. The Holy Spirit is not merely an impersonal force, but a person who can be grieved, resisted, and insulted. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives fully in and completely fills every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are born again. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

About the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to us, one manner in which He has graciously revealed Himself to mankind. We believe that “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” and is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. This means that the Bible was written by human authors who were under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus is the central figure in all of Scripture, therefore the Bible is the supreme source of truth for Christians beliefs, doctrine, and principles for living godly lives. Because the Bible is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error or contradiction.

About Humanity

We believe that God created man in His image and after His likeness. People are made in the spiritual image of God to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Man fell through sin and consequently lost his spiritual life and became dead in trespasses and sins. Sin and rebellion to God is the cause of human suffering. The spiritual death (or total depravity) of human nature has been transmitted to the entire human race, Christ excepted. Men and woman are by their very nature children of wrath and under sentence of condemnation from a just and righteous God, from which there is no deliverance but by Christ.

About Salvation

We believe that when a person believes in/on Christ and his perfect work on the cross as the only adequate payment for their sins that this person is a new creation in Christ Jesus. This new birth of the believer comes only through faith in Christ. A person is justified (declared “not guilty”) only as a gift of God’s grace and as such is no longer subject to condemnation, but has eternal life. We can never make up for our sin and rebellion to God by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one trusts Jesus Christ by faith to save him or her. There is no other requirement.

About Eternal Security

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ alone, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God, not good works, that gives us this security.
